Access to Medical Care for California Families

A practical plan to lower health care costs, expand access to doctors and clinics, reduce wait times, and protect patients from unfair out-of-pocket expenses— while keeping the system transparent and accountable.

Lower Costs Faster Appointments Mental Health Access Lower Prescription Prices

Lower Costs, Faster Care & Real Access

Californians are paying too much for premiums, prescriptions, and out-of-pocket costs—while many communities face long wait times, provider shortages, and fewer options for care. Families should not delay treatment because they fear the bill or can’t find an appointment.

My approach is straightforward: lower costs, expand access, protect patients, and make the system work faster and more transparently for everyone.

Lower Out-of-Pocket Costs & Stop Surprise Billing

  • Strengthen enforcement against surprise bills and hidden fees
  • Require clearer upfront cost estimates for common services and procedures
  • Increase transparency so patients can compare prices and avoid overpaying
  • Reduce administrative waste that inflates costs for families and providers
Goal: Fewer financial shocks, lower monthly costs, and real patient protections—so getting care doesn’t mean going into debt.

Expand Access to Doctors, Clinics & Timely Appointments

In many areas, it’s harder than it should be to see a primary care doctor, specialist, or dentist. When care is delayed, problems worsen and costs rise.

  • Support more community clinics and urgent care access where shortages exist
  • Expand telehealth access—especially for rural communities, seniors, and working families
  • Incentivize providers to serve underserved areas and reduce appointment backlogs
  • Improve coordination so referrals, approvals, and scheduling move faster
Why it matters: Delayed care becomes emergency care—and emergency care is the most expensive care.

Mental Health & Behavioral Health: Care Without Long Waits

Mental health care is health care. Californians deserve timely access to counseling, crisis support, and treatment—without waiting months for help.

  • Expand access to counseling, crisis response, and substance-use treatment
  • Reduce wait times and improve coordination between services
  • Support school and community-based mental health resources
  • Increase accountability so programs deliver real outcomes for patients
Goal: Accessible, timely, and effective mental health care—integrated into a system that supports recovery and stability.

Lower Prescription Drug Costs

No one should have to choose between rent, groceries, and the medication they need. We can lower drug costs through transparency, better purchasing, and fair competition.

  • Use California’s purchasing power to drive better pricing and reduce unnecessary markups
  • Increase transparency so patients can compare costs and avoid overpaying
  • Promote safe, lower-cost alternatives like generics when appropriate
  • Expand access without rationing care or forcing one-size-fits-all decisions

Build a Strong Health Care Workforce

Provider shortages drive up costs and reduce access. We need more doctors, nurses, and medical professionals— and we need to keep them here.

  • Expand training and pathways for nurses, doctors, and allied health professionals
  • Reduce paperwork burdens that contribute to burnout and staffing shortages
  • Improve retention and support in rural and high-need areas
  • Prioritize practical workforce solutions that increase access without lowering standards

Affordable care. Faster access. Equal standards. A healthier California.
